How long have you been a member of Hellgate Hunters and Anglers?
7 years

How did your passion for wildlife, wild places, and fair chase hunting and fishing blossom? When I was a kid my dad would put me on top of his backpack and bush whack his way into the wilderness.  He’d occasionally look back to see me covered in branches and pine needles smiling from ear to ear. I believe this paved the way for the adventurous spirit I possess today.

Favorite/most memorable hunting/fishing story?  When I was still in diapers my dad’s best friend owned a fishing pond in the Bitterroot Valley.  Some of my fondest memories are fishing that pond for the large rainbow trout that lived there. I can remember hooking a giant fish when I was knee high to a grasshopper, and holding that rod as tight as I could as the fish almost pulled me into the water.  My dad had to race out and save me.
Have you ever been lost?  It’s hard to get lost when I don’t care where I am.

Favorite River/Hunting snack?  Coors Light and Elk Jerky

Worst/Most miserable day of hunting or fishing?  Last year I was fishing for steelhead, and after many days of scouring the river for fish, I found them on the last day.  Conditions were perfect and the fish were biting. Unfortunately I was only able to make one cast and land one fish, which broke my rod into 5 pieces.  Of course it was my only rod, so I gave away the spot and watched some other fisherman get the job done. It was a painful learning experience.

What is the best hunting/fishing advice you have received?  Forget the forecast and go.

What hunting/fishing adventures are on your bucket list?  Kamchatka, Iceland, and Tierra del Fuego.

What is your advice for younger generations?  Don’t take hunting/fishing advice from your friends.  Instead, go look for yourself because you might find something they didn’t.
